About Leicester Windrush Consortium
Leicester Windrush Consortium (an amalgamation of Windrush Generation support organisations, Caribbean Island Associations, and individuals) aims to commemorate, celebrate, and congratulate the Windrush Generation. Its main aims are to: -

Increase the visibility of the Windrush Generation in Leicester.

Listen to the voices of the Windrush Generation and their descendants for now and the future.

Celebrate Windrush Day each year.

Establish a Windrush Calendar of events (including a gala dinner evening and Christmas Celebrations.

Install lasting legacies to remember the input of the Windrush Generation in Leicester (mural/monument).
The Consortium has worked well over the last few years in achieving its aims and continues to develop and implement ideas to represent the Windrush Generation.

Rhetoric, Rhythms & Roots, our Heritage Open Days - New Wave projects
Kainé has been successful! In securing a “Heritage Open Days – New Wave Project” grant. With this funding, Kainé will co-create with 18–30-year-olds, tracing identity through language, music, and lived experience. The “New Wave projects” will bring an exciting heritage event that represents their history (1990’s – 2020’s) and experience as follows: -

This year’s “Heritage Open Days Festival” takes place between 11th and 20th September, and Kaine will host its event during this time. Please keep an eye out for more details about our event and plan to come.

“Heritage Open Days” is England’s largest community-led festival of history and culture, involving thousands of local volunteers and organisations. Every year in September, it brings people together to celebrate their heritage, community, and history.

Kainé is a community-rooted organisation that nurtures growth and connection through arts, education, and cultural awareness. Working with all ages, it seeks to empower all the participants to engage, learn, and inherit positive futures.

Kainé Management’s Arts, Community and Education is funded by the UK Government. Kainé Management’s projects with funding from the Million Hours fund, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and the UK Government. All adults aged 18-30 are welcome and free.
